It didn’t take long for me to find something to rant about this morning, all I had to do was look at one of the local papers. And it is one of those things that just really gets my blood boiling. Here is the actual article if you would like to read it. But it basically says that if a dog is a pit bull, rottweiler, chow, Shar-Pei, husky or Malamute then they don’t even get a chance they are murdered without second thought, just because of the breed that they are. Any dog has the potential to be violent and aggressive I don’t care what their breed is. I can’t stand it when people just automatically assume that some dog is going to be aggressive just because of its breed, 90% of the time they get aggressive because that is what they have been taught, or because they have never received love and attention. I have a mixed breed Samoyed/Malamute who would just as soon lick you to death rather then bite you, unless you have a milkbone and are trying to take it away, but that’s my fault because I used to tease him with them. I also have a Shar-Pei that we actually do keep an eye on because he has shown some aggression, but when we first got him at 10 weeks old he acted like he had been beaten severely. It took us a year to get him to let us start actually giving him love and attention; we spent the year having to show him that we were not going to hurt him. Even now almost 3 years after we first got him he will growl at most people if they come near him when he’s eating, but again it stems from his behavior and how he was treated before I got him, and I’ve worked hard to get him to trust people again. The reason I have worked so hard with him is because I do not think it is his fault that he acts this way, I think it is from the treatment he had when he was just a wee pup.
